FTP Instructions

File Transfer (FTP) with a Browser

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a way you can move files from one computer location (network) to another. To make an FTP connection you can use a standard Web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) or a dedicated FTP software program, referred to as an FTP client. If you have ever used Fetch (Mac), WFTP (PC) or FTP, you are already familiar with some clients for file transfer.

Using FTP with Internet Explorer:

Log into ftp.dsgraphics.com

You will be prompted for your username and password.

If you do not get prompted: Choose View / Open FTP Site from the toolbar in Windows Explorer. This should bring up a login prompt which you can enter the username and password that was assigned to you and will open another window that will allow you to drag and drop files onto.

Once logged in you will be in your designated home directory, which will allow you to upload your files. From here, you can drag and drop files into the browser screen.

Confirm file transfer when prompted and close all windows when transfer is complete.

There is an automatic e-mail sent to your customer service rep notifying them that a file has been placed in your directory. However, a corresponding e-mail or phone call is still required for the job to become live at DS Graphics.

Using FTP with Firefox:

  • Download and install the FireFTP Add-on.
  • Log into ftp.dsgraphics.com
  • Click your right mouse button and choose “View this Page in FireFTP”

Once you have the window open, find the file you want to upload on the left-hand side. Highlight the file and choose the green arrow to post it to the right hand side. This will upload the file to our FTP site.

Using SFTP with a dedicated FTP client:

There are several FTP clients available for free (CoreFTP, CuteFTP for the PC and Fetch for the Mac). DS Graphics does not endorse or support any of these products, they are simply suggestions. FTP clients are much easier to use then a web browser and are recommended for all Secure FTP connections.

  • Download and install an FTP client.
  • Create a new connection using the following settings:

Option 1: SFTP (Requires a SSH public Key to be used)

  • Host name: ftp.dsgraphics.com
  • Username and password: (supplied by DS Graphics)
  • Connection type: SFTP using SSH
  • Port: 22 (default is usually 21)
  • Advanced settings / SSH Options / Use Public Key
  • Upload Private Key / Public SSH Key (supplied by DS Graphics) or create a new pair for DS Graphics to use.
  • Save Settings
  • Connect

Option 2: FTPS (SSL)

  • Host name: ftp.dsgraphics.com
  • Username and password: (supplied by DS Graphics)
  • Connection type: FTP over SSL (Explicit)
  • Port: 21
  • Connect
  • Accept SSL Security Certificate

Most FTP clients have a display window showing you the connection status. One side shows your local computer the other shows our FTP folders. Simply choose the file you want to upload and either drag it to the FTP window or click the Upload button.

Confirm file transfer when prompted and close all windows when transfer is complete.

There is an automatic e-mail sent to your Customer Service Representative notifying them that a file has been placed in your directory. However, a corresponding e-mail or phone call is still required for the job to become live at DS Graphics.
